[...] Hi new visitor! Now, on with the regular content…Time for something lighter – the Winners of the PASHA ICT Awards 2007 were announced by Jawwad Farid officially tonight. The winners also automatically get to present in the Asia Pacific ICT Awards in Singapore in November. [...]
Just curious, what was the criteria, comparison companies etc.? What was the basis of being a winner? Number of customers, “innovation”, etc? E.g., in general applications there is CDF-Snip, it doesn’t even have a website – you cant find it so what does it mean? What does “General application” means anyway?
Kalsoft electoral roll system – it gets merit and netsol gets to be the winner, umm on what basis? UI, branding? Both are government project so doesn’t really make sense.
Amaana is the winnner startup company but why is that? What were the comparisons? Yes they got a good idea and it’s a nice product but a winner?
On the positive side, at least we have some awards now and things will become more transparent and clearer, I guess.
Ahah… A pissed loser who shall not identify himself (or herself)… Now why is that, I wonder. Especially since transparency and clarity are so important… But I digress…
I shall answer the posed question in the spirit of new found transparency in this country.
Please look at the APICTA website for category descriptions (you can also see Jehan’s post where she does a quick brief for each). Judging is also hinted at briefly at the APICTA site and as per their guidelines looks at uniqueness, scalability, innovation, deployment and credibility.
CDF Snip is a colloborative application that allows teams to work together and is sill in stealth mode (Osama Hashmi Sahib, please help).
In the e-government category, we looked at deployment, frequency of usage, credibility and foot print in addition to the APICTA guidelines.
I will let Amanaa step in and justify why they deserve to win (Fahad, help please)..
Now coming back to the anonymity issue, please note that I have let this comment pass. If you would prefer to have further conversation on this topic, identify yourself like a man (or a woman) or forever hold your peace.
I thought we in the private sector, and especially in the IT industry, were beyond such things. It is the politicians that cry foul when they don’t win! We in the industry congratulate the winners and celebrate the fact that despite all the challenges that Pakistan faces, there is still innovation and growth – and success is round the corner for a number of companies. That is the spirit we need to continue to have if we are to develop the industry and to grow as a nation.
Any contest or award scheme or sport defines the rules – that the Judges’ decision will be final. The Judges gave their time and honestly and sincerely identified the winners from amongst the nominations. If anyone nominated their product and it didn’t win, perhaps they were not able to state how it was unique, innovative and scalable. For those who did not submit their nominations, well … what can one say? You have to participate in order to receive an award.
Volunteers who take on these jobs of going through nominations in depth and trying to make decisions based on pure merit, deserve to be appreciated, not insulted. When will we learn?
@Annonymus , It would have been a great pleasure if you had told us your name, let me clarify, the organization CDF does have a website the product does not because we have still not launched it publicly. However you will soon be seeing a website and product beta launch, and hopefully that will answer all your questions.
let me assure you the software it self is innovative allows teams to collaborate, wit a lot of functionality not provided by many products in the space we are competing. However let me stop at this, because we will soon be launching and i don’t want to give out any pre mature information, how ever keep checking out the product you will hear soon enough about the launch.
Just found this comment thread.
I think about all that we can publicly say right now has been said by Jawwad (thanks Jawwad for some edge-centric evangelism).
We are in stealth mode because we want to make sure that from day one we can describe a product which is useful to you — for that we’d have to first get feedback from a very small set of people and tweak and tinker with the product until it is worthy of your attention and critique.
Everyone is naturally entitled to hold contradictory opinions (that is the freedom our forefathers fought for) so I wont try to give any justification for our products strengths, because honestly that would be presumptuous.
We are on a roadmap for launching a public beta in a few months — when it happens we can let you decide whether the product is useful for you, or otherwise would let you give us the feedback needed to make it so.
Thanks for your interest though.
Its been excellent show from Pasha and all its members. You guys are really running a tight ship and I see your success as an NGO thriving … keep it up!
For Anonymous, as far as pointing fingers at Pasha CEC on transparency is concerned, its shameful.
Jehan, Jawwad, Jan (3 Js
) are the most honest, hardworking and dedicated Green and Whites I have seen in my ICT career of 16 years. The other on the CEC committee are equally dedicated to Pakistan (Amer, Ashraf and Arooj) the 3 As
Keep it up Pasha!
Jawwad, you need to correct the Security Applications entry here too (as in green and white)
Sorry guys, it is done now. Also made the two edits Osama requested.
I think, criticism is necessary to improve things. Please take it in a constructive way. I see a lot of aggressive replies. The content might be correct but it is always better to prove criticism wrong with logical reasoning. Anonymous might be wrong but if you people give more logical reasoning, other people like him/her will also get answer to such questions. Thanks.
