Ease of doing business in Pakistan

I saw this World bank report a few months ago for the first time when it confirmed something that I had suspected all along. We don’t know how good we have it here in this country. If you are too busy being negative here is what you need to know:

We are ranked at number 2 overall in South ASIA, and in the upper half of all countries globally when it comes to ease of doing business. Our strengths (where we score fairly high) include

  1. Starting a business
  2. Registering property
  3. Getting credit
  4. Protecting investors
  5. Trading across borders
  6. Closing a business

Why is this important? If you believe like I do that the future of this country is in the hands of small business, making it easier to do business for everyone is a step in the right direction.

Don’t take my word for it, go check out the World Bank site

Amazing stuff Jawwad – thanks for sharing. I shall certainly start quoting this report in some of the marketing colatteral I am producing. I love the positive stance that you and TechLahore take on the opportunities that Pakistan provides. There are enough people focusing on the negative. We need less of those.

Dear Jawwad – thanks for sharing this – you might want to trim that pic on your blog – its stretching outwards.

Like JA said, its good that we keep focused on the positive sides of Pakistan, rather than negative only.

Thanks, Bhai. I looked at the actual report, too. This gives me very good material for my Pakistan wind paper. And it is of course very good knowledge and reference for when I start my own tiny, aerospace company in Pakistan. =)

[...] July 12, 2008 by nidagivesvent I happened to come across this report when going through my brother’s blog archives (http://alchemya.com/wordpress2/2008/03/24/ease-of-doing-business-in-pakistan/) yesterday, searching for his entry on the Fatimah Jinnah Girl’s School. Needless to say, what I saw in this blog entry interested me as a prospective small business owner, even though the role may be a few years away. [...]
